Jessica Watson - EPL the Dancing Queen

As the momentum of excitement accelerates in anticipation of Jessica's homecoming, Ella's Pink Lady has infected people all over the world with a craze by dancing gracefully through the water as she sails her intrepid captain safely home.

Setting sail from Sydney on 18 October 2009 Jessica and Ella's Pink Lady have so far overcome every challenge that Mother Nature has thrown at them to achieve their goal.

Jessica and Ella's Pink Lady are expected to complete their epic voyage of adventure around the world, arriving back in Sydney on Saturday 15th May 2010. They need to cross the finish line at Sydney Heads to officially complete their voyage. They will then cruise down Sydney Harbour before docking at the Sydney Opera House.

Sydney Harbour organisers are anticipating that Jessica will cross the finish line at approximately 11:30am and arrive at the Sydney Opera House around 12.30pm, the first time she will have set foot on land in almost seven months.

Organisers are urging Sydneysiders to arrive early to secure the best vantage point and show Jessica a true hero’s welcome. Spectators are encouraged to line the shores or take to the waters of Sydney Harbour to help celebrate the remarkable achievements of this courageous teenager.

There are still an incredible number of people choosing to keep their heads buried in the sand about Jessica's achievements but as far as I'm concerned Jessica, at the age of 16, spent the best part of the last 7 months at sea sailing solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world.

Jessica and Ella's Pink Lady set sail from Sydney Harbour and crossed the equator into the northern hemisphere, passed all lines of longitude and rounded 4 southern capes namely Cape Horn, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Tasmania's South East Cape before ending their circumnavigation at the same port where they started, 3 days shy of Jessica's 17th birthday.

Jessica successfully achieved what she set out to do in fulfilling her ambition and ultimately realising her childhood dream! There is nothing any naysayer can say or do to diminish such an incredible accomplishment nor dampen her pride and sense of achievement.

  2. Dear Sami,
This is ‘priceless’ – LOVE IT. Your creativity and passion shine through – wow what a moment it is going to be when Jess arrives home.

I must say how disappointing it is to see people on the news downplaying her triumph – i felt so hurt to hear all this, and hope it doesn’t affect jess in any way.... as we all know she is a ‘real champion’ and has earned her spot in the record books.

Your beautiful works of art encapsulate the moments of her voyage perfectly.

Yay she is nearly home !!!

  5. You're not being cheeky at all, Sam, unless you mean it in the best, most desirable, way! You have every right to invite us to see your newest creation! After all, we've all told you, over and over, how much we love them and appreciate them, so you know we want to see each new one . . . and as soon as possible!!

What a great way to epitomize the coming "CELEBRATION" . . . Dance is the way all cultures, and all generations, have expressed their joy and excitement . . . their inability to remain still due to their anticipation of something special!!! And this will be SPECIAL!! The fact that you have included all styles of dance, all cultures, and all generations in this piece speaks loudly of the range of the thousands of Jesse's family of fans, who will be "dancing in the streets"; dancing on the decks, and along the docks; dancing in the car parks; and dancing in their homes, in their schools, and in their offices!! Dancing slow, so as to tearfully embrace each other, dancing fast and furious to express the euphoria they are experiencing, and dancing as a group, showing unity and togetherness!!!

You've depicted the child being taught classical ballet; the seniors, hugging each other by dancing slow and close; the can-can line, the western hoe down, ballroom and the folk dancing, all are included!! And each one who looks at it can "find themselves" and how they will want to celebrate Jesse's arrival!!!

And the colors you've used, Sam, are like eye-candy! So clear and bright, and simply delicious!!!! I love this one!!!

    Thanks for this latest masterpiece!!

    Love ya!

    Carol

  8. Sam, this one is just beautiful. Eveyone has mentioned how colourful it is and yes that's what I see too. Also Collette mentions that she can almost "hear" EPL urging Jesse home. That's what I feel too. Very emotional time, I have tears in my eyes just saying this to you.
    Regards,

    Jacquie
